What is the easiest and best way to install a hood with no markings because of new hardware and bracketry. Also once it is installed and final fit is achieved, what is the best way to remove and then re-install. Thanks in advance...Dave

Re: Installing hood question on a 60 vette
If the grille is out it is easier to tighten the forward bolts without disturbing the hood position. In any case you might try to wedge a few flat pieces of wood between the fender and hood to center it. Leave the rear male latches off initially until you have forward/back, right/left roughly centered. You might use some sort of stiff foam or wood to raise the rear of the hood even with the top of the fenders. Snug up on the bolts gently tightening all of them equally. Once you have the hood center and the bolts relatively tight, put the male latches back on and adjust further if necessary. It is possible to reach up and move the female latch manually if the hood locks in place. No big deal.- Top

Leave the male latches off the hood and the springs off the females. Adjust the hinges so the hood fits square and level. Install the male latches on the hood with the bolts loose. Drop the hood and the male latches will align to the females. Tighten and trial and error until you get what you want. I can drop my hood from about 3 inches high and it will latch.

Use white-out or masking tape and a Sharpie to mark the location of the hinges to the hood before removal; use those marks to align it when you re-install, then either wipe off the white-out or remove the masking tape.- Top
