C-3, Firewall Paint

I'm not quite clear on the 1970-1972 JG's reference to the paint color of the firewall vertical surface as being "blackout". Meaning flat black, low gloss black, any black? The ones I've seen range from flat black to semi-gloss black.

John Deere blitz black works for me. Pick it up at any John Deere dealer.Don't paint it much past the top of transmission hump. Use the old blackout as a guide if it is original.

Your local gm dealer can also order engine low gloss black for this as well. This is what I used for my restoration. It's around 6.00 a can.

I was waiting for other than a John Deere answer.
I was thinking it was low gloss but at a NCRS regional judging recently I swear I saw at least one C-3 firewall painted what appeared to be flat black up to the top of the hood ledge. Others appeared to be low gloss to semi-gloss. That was the nature of my question---what is considered black-out? I mean, I have high heat barbecue pit black paint, too. THAT is really flat black.
