Hello, dose anybody have a Heater Delete 69 out there? I relise that it is a common missconception that all L 88's were Heater Delete. And that the Defroster was mandated by 68 so there should not of been a Heater Delete Car deliverd to a Dealer. But could there of been some deliverd to a Race Team or otherwise that got through the System with out? Reason I'm asking is that I have a 69 with out a Heater and there is no Hole in the Firewall where the Heater Core should go but there is the Hole for the Fan Motor. The Firewall has been Painted wich could cover Body Work but a Magnet dosn't find any Sheet Metal Work.If there was such a thing as a Heater Delete 69 then what would Fill the Hole in the Console where the Heater Control should Be? Last Question, were L 88's Built in Batch's Like the Zo6 of 1963? In other words can we tell by the Build Date if a Car could even be an L 88 by the date it was Produced. Thanx....Richard....

Re: Heater Delete 1969 L88
There were no heater delete factory cars in 1969. The L88's were not built in batches but were built on the standard assembly line like all the other cars. They are mostly like a 435 HP car with a base radiator support modified for the L88 radiator. Just add the J56, F41, M22 and a few other changes and you're there.
There are a few other little things like the antenna hole fill and that certain options were never available with the L88. That's why there are now so many more "original" L88's than were ever built!

Mark, while there may be some fake L88s running around I would honestly say that they are not fooling a serious L88 collector. I have been keeping track of L88s for twenty plus years and know where a lot of them are and which ones are real or fake. It is a lot harder to fake a car when you have a group of people compling information on just 216 cars vs. 3754 cars for example, 67 435s.

The pictures that I have of the yellow one shows a heater box under the hood. According to the story this car was driven by a company exec for a short while before it was sold.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: Heater Delete 1969 L88
That's correct - the yellow one (now owned by Roger Judski) was ordered and driven by George Heberling, the Chevrolet Engineering Resident Engineer at St. Louis at the time, as his company car.
It was against Federal Law to build a car for retail sale without a defroster beginning in 1968.- Top
