Re: new rims and tires
Most of the better tire retailers like Discount and NTB have the latest, greatest machines. They typically sell and mount a lot of expensive wheels. The better machines don't touch the rim at all. Most of the older machines do and can scratch the outside bead. Also make sure that when they balance them you get them to put the weights on the inside only because if you don't some 18 year old will hammer them onto the outside.

Re: new rims and tires - watch the weights
If you have the aluminum wheels, some shops like to mount tape weights inside the wheel as this is placing it in a more accurate location than the edge. However, they can hit the caliper. This does one of two things: tears up the weight which gets pulled off or loosens your lug nuts.
Neither is desired, but pray it is the first if either happens.- Top
