    63 air cleaner

Which is correct the (red or black) lettering on the under side of a 63 L76 air cleaner? Thanks Bob

My early car has red and is original I think. At least since 1970 it is.

      Hi Bob -

My late 63's A/C cover has red lettering (well... orange). The 63-64 TIMJG says they are all red lettering on all carb engines for both '63 and '64, but I don't believe it. I've been doing an informal survey and find more black than red. I have what I believe is an original '64 A/C & cover with black lettering. Maybe they phased in black during '64?

My guess, in your case, I'd go with the red.

      Pete

October 62 coupe has yellow/orange lettering on underside of 340 hsp air cleaner. Probably a faded red as reds are not very stable and the inside of an air cleaner is relatively hostile.
