    Temp gauge wire problem c3

I have a 72 that I recently purchased. The car has a 75 motor in it. I am in the process of finding and replacing it with a correct dated 72 block. In the mean time I want to drive the car. The water temp gauge is not hooked up. I have a wire diagram of a 75 motor and a 72 motor. The 75 motor shows two temp sending units, the 72 shows one. Here's what I did.
    1. Removed the sending unit from right side of motor, (it had two conectors on it and was broken) only a Dk Green was hooked to it. Left side also has a sending unit.
    2. Purchased a new sending unit from auto parts store, check three stores they all showed a single wire pin unit.
    3. Installed new sending unit.
    4. Hooked the green wire fron right side og fire wall, ( the wire that was previously hooked up) and had no connection. I tested the wire and it is not conducting to the water temp gauge. It is the wrong wire or shorted some where.
    5. I ran a seperate wire from the sending unit (new one on right side, single pin) to the gauge and it works, but it will read way too hot. I assume it does not have the correct resistance.
    6. I checked corvette central and they show two sending units for a 72, one with two wires and one with one wire. The 75 block has two sending units one on the left and one on the right. My gauge in the dash I believe is the 72 gauge, it has the oil line. The water gauge only has one green wire to it.
So which sending unit do I need and what dom I hook up to make my water temp gauge work.

    thanks cal

Re: Temp gauge wire problem c3

    Cal -

The 2-pin sender on the passenger side is a hi/lo switch that controls the TCS solenoid. The single-pin sender for the temp gauge is the one on the driver's side. Lectric Limited claims to have correctly-calibrated gauge senders with the terminal to match the harness connector.
