As soon as you give him a neutral, he will give you a negative. Seen it many times.

File the complaint on the shipping with eBay first.

      Re: Shipping charges on ebay.

He listed it as $3.95 for shipping, which the right thing to do but didn't respond to the question on why so much. In my mind, there is no way he could justify that amount for shipping. Cut out a piece of posterboard the size of the envelope, tape the six clips, seal it up, put a stamp on it and put in your mailbox for the mailman to pick up. I can see additional costs for shipping if it requires a large or special box, heavy weight, etc but six wire clips that weigh 1oz? Reasonable?

I have never done this link thing, I will try it. I believe he stated that he ships via UPS or postal. That is all he says. I assumed it meant he would charge me either rate. There is no mention of handling fees from the seller.

          Try this.

            Terry,

Agree there is a growing number of sellers that abuse the shipping charge "loophole". $26 is indeed a ripoff, but the $12 final fee isn't that unreasonable.

Consider that the seller takes the time to package everything up and take it to the shipping outlet. Plus eBay is going to charge him 3-4 bucks for listing and selling fees for the "privelege" of using their site to sell merchandise. If you paid with Paypal, those weasels with snag a couple more bucks as well.

When I sell something on eBay, I post a flat rate that will cover shipping, eBay AND Paypal fees. (90% use Paypal for the protection element alone)

If the shipping rate isn't posted, email in advance as previously mentioned. If you don't get a responce assume the worst and wait for another one to come along.

I agree with you totally. I figured that if anyone knows this guy, he could get a little bad press here. Plus, it's just the principle of it. He tried to rip me off. Terry

                Re: Shipping charges on ebay.

Terry - this guy is a total rip off......but he is honest in this sense. He has a shipping calculator in his listing......for my zip code in Tucson AZ, (85750) when I click on calculate......it comes up $23.99 on the part which is a license bracket with buy it now for $15. Complete RIP OFF! Now, I would NEVER buy from a guy that does this......so I have learned to use those shipping calculators FIRST, to compare true price, or, if vague, email and ask. I would say.......he did meet the letter of the law by showing the cost up front, but this is to me a very very poor practice that would make me never buy from him. If it were me, I would not leave a neautral, chalk it up to my stupidity (I did something like this in the past once, live and learn) and go on. The retaliatory feedback he will give you with a negative if you give a neutral would not be worth it to me. Just my perception.......but when you use ebay enough.......you run into all these things. One of the reasons I always list and charge only the going rate from the shippers. Usually, I will pass along my IBM DHL discount on any item I sell to get the purchaser overnight air service for about 10% more than UPS ground prices.......Craig

Terry the link you posted was that to your actual aucton? He has a shipping calulator on it.Did you get a different price charged to you then what the calculator quoted you ? if the price is different then you could be unhappy with him,but if he charged what the calculator showed then the seller did no wrong and its unfair for you to try and bring him as you say "bad press"

I only see the ups ground shipping charges.

Don't let eBay know that, as they will boot your auction. It is against eBay policy to list any eBay fee as an extra charge. They intend you to get their fee as part of the auction selling price. If you say you will charge that ebay or PayPal fees separately (as part of handling fee, shipping fee, or refund less the eBay fee), then you will get it booted.

eBay will be on you worse than the crook who charges $12.00 USPS flat rate to mail a decal.

                      My thought....

Next time do some comparison shopping.
This same bracket is $18 from Paragon. Use your 10% NCRS member discount and it's at $16.20. They charge $8.25 for shipping up to $50 of parts. Yes that's more than what we might expect from just dropping it in Priority Mail, but you'd have saved about $15 on the deal. And, you could haver purchased over $30 more items before the shipping charge from Paragon would bump up any further.

Others also do this as noted above, but I always, always, always use the shipping calculator or ask for shipping prices before I even think of bidding. I then include it in my total price before bidding.

He would have had to sell you the item for free to equal what you would have paid one of the common Corvette parts houses.

Not only that, but Paypal's "protection" is a joke. Even if you use a credit card, don't think that eBay and/or Paypal will stand behind you if you end up with a piece of junk when the seller promises you a nice part.

Paypal is convenient. That's the end of its benefits.

                          Re: Shipping charges on ebay.

The real answer is your first statement - comparison shopping.

I look up every part that is new or somewhat new in Eckler's, Paragon, and so on to get the price before buying. Why buy someone's item they can't return for more than you can buy it new?

And ALWAYS figure the shipping, so you can gauge if their shipping costs are reasonable or not.

And shipping is part of your PAYING price, even if not part of eBay's price. Many forget and say "I only paid $10 for this" but they really paid $20 ($10 item + $10 shipping).

                            Yep.

That's why I don't buy some items, because once shipping is added the cost is higher than I can obtain the same item for locally.

I also tend to keep a list of Corvette parts I need to purchase, and once I have a list together I can have it all shipped at once from one vendor. The shipping cost per item goes down.

I agree, I didn't know how the shipping calculator thing worked. But, you look at such an item and it is reasonable to assume it should not be so much. I have shipped enough items just like it to know. But you are right on the money. If I see a shipping calculator, I am going to start using it unless I see shipping right up front. I put shipping right up front when I do an auction or I state exact shipping charges. I have shipped glass on occassion and I have added packaging charges to that because it is a pain to package and carries cry when it is not done right. Live and learn! Terry

Yup, paypal=weasels! They make some bucks on those transactions. I hate it when people pay that way. I would rather take a personal check. Lots of times I run into buyers that seem to understand the paypal situation and are happy to send payment some other way than paypal. Terry
