Broach marks seem to end where they'd be hidden under the head.

Also, no VIN stamp, so it was never installed in a production line Corvette. At best an over the counter replacement, but I would guess it's been made into a "restoration motor" that the next owner can apply his own VIN to the pad.

It is hard to tell, but it looks like a .040 over on the piston. If so, then there has been a lot of time to wear that much, so where are the rusted pits on the deck under the water passages?

That implies it has been decked to have such a clean deck. and any decking would have wiped the lines that are nearly at the cylinder.

The lines visible go back well enough, but I almost see a curve, but that could be illusion from a photo.

If they are not really original -- they sure as heck look like they are.

              Again, no VIN code.

IT LOOKS TO BE A RESTAMP FOR SURE . THE # 11 IS INCORRECT SHOULD HAVE A FLAG ON TOP OF THE # with out a foot on the bottom ? JUST MY OPINION .......

It is clearly a restamp, but the broach marks look real good. Whoever did them is a real craftsman!

In 62 there were several different styles of several of the different digits used--the "1" was one of those--can't toss it out based on that.

I must retract my statement about the #'s on the block. those #'s only apply to the serial # . but these #'s are still incorrect . the #s for the month of november should be the capitol letter ( II ) instead . THANKS

I agree. The broach is hopelessly incorrect. The "one" and "two" characters are certainly not typical but I suppose possible. Also, as you mention, the lack of a VIN stamp would have to mean that this was a complete engine assembly sold through GM parts, not a fitted or short block assembly. Partial assemblies had no stamp at all.

Looks like he is a little confused about the correct or original 9 fin valve covers.

How do you put offset hole 56/57 9 fin valve covers on straight across 62 heads?

                              Without drilling extra holes?

Sounds like it might be a nice set of 9 fin covers if they have not been drilled.
