The casting number on my 1957 bellhousing is 3733365, and casting date is H147. In regard to the clutch ball stud, it bolts on from the inside of the housing with a 3/4 inch socket. The vendors only sell the ball stud with an allen key from the outside, what is correct for my application and where can I get the correct stud

Re: c-1 bellhousing
The only time I have saw that type of bellhousing it was a Canadian Housing. The ears on the bell were a little different shaped aswell.

56's to mid-'56 used bellhousing casting #3704922 (replaced in mid-'56 through 1959 by casting #3733365, which is identical except for the casting number); the Corvette part was machined for the outside-installed ball stud (#3729000) with the 13/16"-16 thread, flanged head, and allen key provision, and the same casting was machined for passenger car use into a different finished part number that used the inside-installed 7/16"-20 ball stud #3836314.
Your bellhousing is the finished part for a passenger car (although no one will ever know the difference); I'd expect that you can find the inside-installed ball stud through one of the shoebox-Chevy restoration parts houses like Danchuk, etc. The passenger car application also used a different clutch fork to accommodate the slightly smaller-diameter (21/32" vs. 11/16") ball end (GM#3726569), and the Corvette used GM# 3837147 clutch fork with a special U-shaped retainer spring (GM#3726571) and reinforcement (GM#3728567) riveted to the pushrod end.- Top
