    Re: 63 Two Tab Ring

    Randy,

If the holes in the back of your rear rings (cups) are square, not round, I would have to guess that these are later replacement cups. I believe the round hole continued at least through the C2 series but I'm not 100% sure.

My old 19,746 car had two tab rings and that car still had the original T3 lamps in it when I bought it in 1976.

Wonder if the parts book would show different numbers for 58-63 and 64-67?

I think the cup even in 63 has three mounting tabs, rings different story.

        Re: For Michael

OK Mikhael, I'll dig into the late Fall '64 parts book and here is what we have, the inside ring, (Group 2.726) shows as two part numbers, an inner and outer, the 58-63 Pass car and Corvette all cal for part numbers 5948824, 825, 826, and 827. The '64 Corvette, unlike the pass car that continued the '63 part numbers into '64, uses only two part numbers, and they are 5955498 and 500.

The outer ring is Group 2.731, and shows '58-63 Passenger and Corvette as 5948828, and the '64 Corvette using Part number 5954892.

          Randy-----

That would be an anomoly if they were original to the car. However, they're not. This "nomenclature" was used for rings manufactured from ABOUT 1969 onward. This included both PRODUCTION rings as well as SERVICE rings manufactured from ABOUT that time for all 1958+ applications.

These are DEFINITELY replacement rings; this style, including hole configuration and stamped marking, were used from ABOUT 1969 in PRODUCTION and were sold in SERVICE from ABOUT that time for all 58+ applications. There was actually a "transition period" as far as SERVICE parts were concerned and it was not until ABOUT 1974 that all 4 were "converted over" to the new style.

Thanks Bill, interesting. I wonder if that change was a result of the new style headlight buckets on 64-67 instead if the fiberglass buckets on 63?
