Universal stud -- go to any hardware store
The note in my 1966 P&A30 for part # 3785256 reads: " This is a universal stud that must be cut to required length [it's 9 inches long !!]. If excess length is not removed, damage to the hood panel or carburetor can result upon closing the hood"
For crying out loud, this is a threaded rod you can buy for 50 cents at any Home Depot- Top

Re: Universal stud -- go to any hardware store
It may have an unthreaded portion in the middle. Many do. Some also have a small flange where they are supposed to stop when threading them into the carb.
Of course, since this one is in the package, we can't tell any of that. And these must be relatively common in old junkyards, too.

Re: Ebay items
cut an inch off the airmeter end and presto, ya got a 57 vette FI aircleaner stud. can't make out the shape of the pointed exposed end(picture not magnified enough to show shape of point) but trying to duplicate the pointed end is a difficult proceedure, but not a 120 dollar proceedure.mike- Top

That's correct. The GM #3785256 is a "one-size-fits-all" SERVICE-only stud. It was never used in any PRODUCTION application that I can find. What's more, it's STILL AVAILABLE from GM for $5.77, GM list.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Mike-----
No need to try to duplicate the "pointy end". For $5.77 (less, if you get a discount) you can buy this stud at any GM dealer. For that price, it's not worth the effort. Many dealers will stock this stud, so you won't even have to wait. For those that don't stock it, they'll want you to buy the package quantity of 5 (when this happens, you tell them that you'll buy ONE at list and FOUR at their cost). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Talk about not doing your homework. Heck, I bet he will pay $15.00 for shipping this rare NOS part. He could buy the part for $5.97, tax and spend $100 in gas driving to pick up the part and still be ahead.- Top

This is a rare starter. However, there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING rare about the configuration apart from the number. So, what someone is buying here is a starter frame with a certain number on it; that's all.
Want an IDENTICAL starter, except for "numbers"? Order a remanufactured Delco starter of GM #10496870. GM list is about 100 bucks, less through Delco. Not only will you have identical configuration, you'll have a completely and freshly rebuilt unit to boot.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Ebay items
What is it with all these crazy Ebay prices lately? There are three 1967 owners manuals on Ebay, two are $250 and one is $500. I told my son, when he decides to sell the car after my death, to dismantle the car and sell the parts on Ebay and he could retire young.- Top
