I just noticed on the top of my radio that it states that the only speakers to be used should be 8-10 ohms. I replaced the speakes 18yrs ago and I see that they are only 4 ohms. Now...when the radio is cold it works just great and is crystal clear but as it warms up say 15 minutes or so it sounds like it is going out of tune and starts fading away. Does this sound like something is overheating because of the lower resistance speakers? Would it be a good idea to place a 4-6 ohm resistor on each speaker to bring the resistance up to where it should be and then try it? Right now the whole set up is on the bench so while it is out I have to get it working properly...it is just too much of a bear to take out later down the road! Oh, one last question...should the light inside the radio go bright and dim with the rest of the gauges or is it just one intensity. Thanks.

Re: 69 radio/speaker question
i restore radios. what do you mean it fades away and goes out of tune? is the tuner drifting off channel? you cant just add a resistor in series with the speaker. it is impedance not just ohms. since you only have 2 speakers? my 69 is stereo, is yours? it wont matter that much. others will disagree but i have used 4 ohm speakers on a lot of my cars. it does put 2x the load on the power transistors so if they are weak it might cause them to fail. but thats not you case. email me directly and ill help you out.
