restamp carbs on Ebay

have you seen the restamp carbs on ebay? I think the carb doc is selling them, there is one on there now. had one last week on there also. I mean the guy is coming out an saying that it is a service carb restamp. what do you guys think of all the restamps now from carbs, starters, alts,ect..
my deal is with the post where I was asking about the inside of the carb, how would you be sure that you were not just geting the corect# but the wrong size carb? for your applaication. I want my car run great just like it was new, an if that means not having the right# carb then so be it. I mean he might have it just right, but how could one be sure of, if it is not the real deal.

Although I don't support restamping carbs, I suppose it's better that a seller admit that the carb started as a "correct" service replacement, with the proper components for its' application before it was restamped and dated. Atleast you'll know that, as you say, it will operate as it was originally intended to.

The best "restampers" of carbs have gotten it down pat. To these old eyes they are impossible to detect. Some of the early attempts to stamp carbs were easy to detect with the fingers. The inside of the air horn would be deformed under the stamps. That is not true today. Not so with starters. Don't even need glasses to detect them. Alternators usually are pretty easy to detect. Most I have seen lack the D/R logo on the front of the case. In the case of some of the very high dollar alternators the configuration of the case deviates markedly from the originals. And then we start with the stamp characters. You have to remember these were originally stamped with a roll stamp, not a gang such as was used on blocks and transmissions. Normally with a little practice it is easy to catch them
