I've always been curious why all the fender emblems that I have seen have both the 396 part numbers AND the 427 - 1966 part numbers cast on the back. Example of this set on eBay (link below).
Did the earlier 396's have only their proper number ? And are all others GM service parts for 1965 ?
I have the original off 65# 17346 and it has no part #s .It appears to be made by bSc or bSg company.The later emblems with two part #s are made by General out of Detroit.Also on the original there is much less brushing on the turbo jet portion & the lower stud was made about 3/16 shorter than the replacement emblem ,and was not cut off....Bill
