    Antenna ground plate installation

I just discovered my 66 does not have the antenna ground plate. My radio works fine. ????

It looks like I'd have to remove the muffler to gain access in this area. Any comments from someone who has done this would be appreciated.

Did that exact job recently. Dropped muffler, tire well, filler panel. Swore I would put my sidepipes back on. Seems a lot of work for such a simple job. Despite years of practise in auto-yoga, I still had to take it all apart. It is a cascade of parts removal unfortunately.

      Hi Randy -

I replaced my repro antenna with an original this summer. The ground plate came out and went back in without removing the muffler. However, the tail pipe extension was off and the muffler was disconnected at the rear mount to give me a bit of play. You will note that the ground plate is flexible and can be bent slightly making it fairly easy to work up in there. Once the plate is up in the fender well area, it can be flattened easiy prior to final install.

All you need are looooong arms and skinny fingers!
