    midyear console aluminum plate

Are the reproduction aluminum insert plate close to the orginal? Is there more than one company making them, and if so which is the best? Thanks john

Don't know how many makers there are, but the ones I've seen don't have correct printing.

Midyear console aluminum plate; repro vs. orginal

      John,

I bought the 4-speed console restoration kit from Corvette Central and everyting looks very accurate. The only difference I can tell in the lettering on teh 4-speed plate is a very minor difference in the left-hand pointed part on number 4 that would be hard to detect without having an original and the repro side by side. I had heard previously that the font on the repros was very obviously different from original, but in the case of Corvette Central's plate, this is simply not the case. I don't know if the font on the kits from others vendors is correct or not, so I'd recommend going with CC.

Re: Midyear console aluminum plate; repro vs. orgi

In regard to repro's or should I say repro vs. repro, there are many members and non members replacing original parts that are beyond repair with repro parts that are in some cases mirror images of the original and in others cases different enought that a point deduction could take place when judging. It would be great if in that position to have some type of list of supplier/repro's whose product/s match original parts so close that no deduction would occur if replacement was purchased and installed. I have been in that position with 10 magazines to look at(suppliers)and at the same time not knowing if one was preferred over another by those who judge the same.....
