I have a 65 April car with an L79 that needs a new fan clutch. The old one I have is a service replacement. I'd like to get an original or rebuilt original. Any suggestions as to where to get one and what I might expect to pay?
Thanks,
Mark

I don't think that I have the web site correct. Also, the e-mail may be foliva@gate.net. It's either this or foliva@net.gate. If you try them both, one will likely be returned.
I agree with Joe Lucia that Fred Oliva does a very nice job rebuilding fan clutches. However, last time I talked with Fred he said he was currently out of rebuildable cores. I got a very nice core on ebay for about $60 and had Fred rebuild it. At Carlisle this year I saw quite a few cores offered by various vendors, but I didn't check pricing.
The key element in selecting a core is to be sure you are getting one that is correct for your car. There were two different styles used during the C2 years, and at least one of them came in big-block and small-block versions.
I think that most of the important identification info is contained in previous articles that Fred Oliva has written for the Restorer, but you could also talk with some experienced C2 judges to learn what would be correct for your particular car.
By the way, the current GM service replacement part number 3916141 is VERY close in appearance to the original C2 Eaton clutch. The 3916141 typically gets only a 1 point deduction during flight judging, so some owners I know have decided to just get that and take the small hit when the car is judged.
Thanks, Joe. I appreciate your response. I'll check the Restorer for info on the correct unit for my car. There isn't a lot of info out there and the JG is fairly good on a description and with numbers, but tough to visualize. Also, I guess that some during that time are dated and some aren't and the change occurred during the middle of 1965... which just happens to coincide with my car. Nothing like making the search more interesting! I guess that's what makes the hobby a challenge....nothing boring about it! I also looked at Noland Adam's book but not a lot of specific pictures, to I'm hoping the Restorer helps.
Thanks again,
Mark

Since I can't seem to get a response from the sites above, what do I need to look for to make sure I get the right unit? I've gone by the JG, but I'm still not 100% clear. I think I may have found one, but I'm not quite sure.
Thanks for your help!
