    C1: Wide wheel question

I have a set of wide wheels, but the spare has something strange on it. There are 3 threaded holes on the outside of the rim about 1/4 wide with some sort of rubber nubs in them.

Picture attached (I think). The nub I'm talking about is in the lower half of the picture, just a little left of center.

Is this normal for the spare, or is this something somebody did to it? And if so, why would they do it?

    Thanks.

    -Dave

Dave, My guess (from some experience)...

...would be for the attachment of (Dean) "Moon" (Salt Flat) wheel covers... I'd fill the holes w/JB weld and continue w/my life... PS, I've heard tell these wheels are worth quite a few frogskins...

Are the three holes equally spaced around the rim? Maybe the wheel had bonneville type moon discs...at one time.

Yes, the holes are equally spaced, and it sounds like I should have them filled before painting.

        Thanks for the help guys.

          Re: C1: Wide wheel question

Many years ago, I put screws through the rim to secure the tire from spinning on the rim during drag racing. (Another possibility)

My 57 had the Salt Flat type Moon discs..and thus the 3 holes drilled into and through the wheels. The tires at that time had tubes. Later when I removed the discs and the tubes. I JB welded the holes as DC suggested. Even then..there was a slow air leak.

              Dave:

Your car would not be a white 60 big brake fuel; would it. If so, I did some research on it yaers ago.

                Re: C1: Wide wheel question

It is white, it is a big brake car, and it is a fuelie, but it's an early '59, not a '60. Darn, that would have been nice to get some more info on it.

                Thanks for the reply.

I may have the year wrong. Is this a fairly recent purchase from Minnesota?
