I am attaching the starter to my engine. I have two questions:
1. The starter has holes for three mounting bolts, but only 2 line up with the holes in the engine, and these two are offset, not the two that are closest to the flywheel. Is this correct for the 427, and is the other hole in the starter for a different configuration? There appears to be a tapped hole in the vicinity on the engine, but it won't line up when the other two bolts are in place.
2. I clumsily broke off the stud from the back of the starter used to mount the rear starter bracket to the engine. Is this a grounding lug, a short stud, or a long stud that goes all the way through the starter? I'm asking for purposes of repair, the stud is broken off flush with the nut that was underneath the bracket. I'm ready to remove that nut tonight, unless I'm risking damage to internals.
Thanks in advance for helping me move (albeit slowly) toward resuurecting this project car.
