    1963 hubcaps

I have an April built car therefore I have the second design hubcaps (no frost). As I was taking them apart for the first time today I noticed some differences. On two the center support on the inside behind the spinner were painted black and all the screws were hi-hat with a C head-mark. The other two center supports were natural and the screws we not hi-hat with an E head-mark. Has anyone else run across either configuration.

    Thanks

    Harry

    Also, the E head-mark is a 5/16 inch drive and the C head-mark is 1/4 inch drive.

      Hi Harry -

Mine are not original to my car but were bought as a set. They are all the 5/16" screws with an E. I have a spare that has 5/16" screws with no head marks.

My guess, it boils down to whoever was supplying screws that week/month.

        Harry,

I've dinked around with probably 20 car sets of 63 hubcaps. All of the "real" fat rim early frosted style hubcaps used the smaller head screws and at some point following the finish change, a transition was made to the larger head fastners.

The inner steel reinforcement should be dipped coated in black paint.
