I think I need bellhousing #3779553, for 62 327. understand this housing is used on others such as 61-63 409,and possibly 60-61 H/perf 348....Having a hardtime finding this item, is this a hard to find bellhousing? Any help in locating one? Is there a different number housing that would be easier to locate that is essentially the same?

The GM CASTING #3779553 aluminum bellhousing was used only for the following applications:
1961-62 Corvette, all with manual transmission
1961 passenger car with special high performance 348
61-63 passenger car with 409
62 passenger car with high performance 327 (i.e. L-75, 300hp)
The relatively small number of the above cars originally manufactured and the fact that the non-Corvette applications are very desirable and restorable cars in their own right makes for very limited availability of the 3779553 bellhousing. They are "around" and pop up on eBay from time-to-time but usually sell for a high price.
There are other bellhousings that would be functional replacements for your application, though. These include the following:
GM CASTING #3764591. This is an aluminum bellhousing very similar to the 3779553. However, this bellhousing was used on 1960 Corvette applications and some very limited production passenger cars (also highly restorable). So, it's probably the most difficult-to-find of ALL Corvette bellhousings used from 1956 to the present. If you can find one it will work perfectly, though.
GM CASTING #3733365. This bellhousing was used on Corvettes from 1956 to 1959 and also on 1956-57 passenger cars. It's made of cast iron and is a lot easier to find and less expensive. It is configured a bit differently than the 60-62 Corvette bellhousings inasmuch as, in addition to material type, it has frame mounting points (used for the 56-57 passenger car applications), but unused on Corvette. If you use this bellhousing you have to make sure that you get one that has the correct-for-Corvette ball stud fitting (13/16-16 thread size). Most of this casting number should have this thread size, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
