I have a 1965 roadster with a 327-350hp engine. The hood hits the air cleaner when I close the hood.To get the hood to lock,I have to push down on sides of the hood. The intake manifold and the air cleaner are stock. The carburetor is a 650 double pumper. Is the carburetor the problem or what?If I put the 2818 Holley on the car, will the car run as strong as the double pumper THANKS Tom

Re: 1965 hood
Hi Tom:
I wouldn't put pressure on the hood to latch it, you're asking for all sorts of problems not the least of which is fiberglass stress induced cracking, warpage and carburetor distortion. I believe the 650 has a slightly higher profile than the stock carb and you are probably running too rich anyway if your other engine parts are stock. Also, at the risk of sounding overly simplistic, is there a carb insulator present that is not stock ?

Re: 1965 hood
I didn't think the double-pumper was that much higher than the stock Holley, but it may be. Again ,it may be the insulator under the carb is to thick, or the stud to hold the air-cleaner is to long. In any event I would go back to the stock set-up. It's very Quick! Bob- Top

Re: 1965 hood
I have seen this installation also Wayne, I am very curious about this and wondered the same thing. Thomas indicated his was "stock", he could have a GM intake from another application. I would suggest a numbers check, if Thomas has not already done so.
