fixed roof Corvette

Yesterdays "Corvette Day-to-Day" desk calendar had the following: "In 1999 a fixed roof Corvette was offered for the first time since the 1963-1967 model years". I don't get it as I believe 63-67's were either coupes or convertibles and these 2 choices continued through 1975. Mistake from the publisher or ???? (I do have a 2000 fixed roof coupe besides a 59)

I think they are talking about the 1999 Z06 as a fixed roof. The other versions were either convertable, T-tops, removeable top, etc. Not all 1999+ were "fixed" roof unless it was a Z06-optioned Corvette.

There was no FRC after 67. All 63-67 coupes were fixed roof. 1968 coupes all had T-Tops, so there were no "fixed" roof coupes after 67 until the C5. The C5 ZO6 was built first in 2001 on the FRC body introduced in 1999. I may be off on the years, but all C5 ZO6's are FRC, but not all C5 FRC's are ZO6's. C6 ZO6 is also an FRC, although it is a fast back and looks like (sort of) the standard coupe with the removeable top panel.

In 1999 There was a Corvette "hardtop" that was supposed to be an entry-level model. the same body used for the Z06 option a couple years later.

The '99-'00 Fixed Roof Coupe and '01 to '04 ZO6, which was based on the FRC body were separate and distinct models, not options. There was no Z06 model for 2005.

The '99-'00 FRC included a six-speed manual tranmission (which was optional at extra cast on the Coupe and Convert.) and also included the Z-51 package, which was optional on the other models.

The Z06 got the special engine, transmission gearing, suspension calibration wheels, tires, and other unique equipment, like seats.

they could not sell those C-5 FRC so to use

up their commitment to the supplier they made you buy a FRC to get the ZO-6 package even if the regular coupe was more aero for racing. the FRC was lighter on the top for better handling BUT most C-5 ZO-6s never saw a race track
