    C1 Exhaust

My C1 1959 puts out more exhaust on the drivers side than the passanger side. Is this normal and why. Thanks in advance. Jimmy

It's not normal, and it's a bad thing. The exhaust heat riser valve (which is on the passenger side) is not fully opening. Very common. Open it by hand and then safety wire it to stay in the open position. You can try to free it up by lubricating it. Chevy sells a lubricant designed for this very application. Maybe you can get it working again. It's supposed to stay closed when cold, and then open up when the engine warms. But I don't know that I'd trust it now. Only way to know for sure is to wire it open, or take it off the car and gut the innards.

The exhaust heat riser will also contribute to muffler replacement on the passenger side more frequently. Do you ever see cars leave a stoplight/stopsign and a liquid streaming out of the exhaust? This type of moisture stays in your muffler and destroys it.
