what is the best way to tell the diff. between a close ratio M 20 trans. from a wide ratio m 20 BORG WARNER ? does the close ratio have any rings on the imput shaft ? NEED some help ???????????? thanks all .

Hi just give me the no, that is to be read on the transmission tag.
something like 3870354 (4spd M20 WR 300,350,390HP)
a muncie has 7 bolts at the side cover
a T-10 has 9 bolts at the side cover

Put the transmission in low gear. Turn the OUTPUT shaft one turn. If the INPUT shaft turns 2.25 times, it's a close ratio. If it turns 2.5 times, wide ratio.

Nancy,
The wide ratio had one groove cut around the input shaft. Also, if the side cover is original, there will be an "A" cast after the date code. I haven't the foggiest idea why the side cover would be different for a wide ratio, but that's been my observation after looking at a lot of T-10s.
