I took out the fresh air vent door on the driver's side and was not surprised to see that the seals are pretty well shot. In one of the catalogs I found a kit to repair the seal - it looks like the seal is pinched in between the metal sides of the door, which are riveted together. Are the kits any good? Any tricks? I hate to blow $50 for a new door when the metal pieces will clean up just fine.

Re: C2 fresh air vent door
Mark, what I did was wash the seals in warm soapy water, wire brush the door and paint. The seal was still not perfect, but it was better.
While you are in the area take a mirror and flashlight and look at the bottom of the drain area. Mine was full of leaves and other debris. I adapted a hose to my shop vac. to clean it out. Also take a look from underneath to ensure the drain hole is not clogged. This can become a source of birdcage rust if not clear.

Re: C2 fresh air vent door
Thanks - got a kit and the job looks easy. What did you use to peen over the rivets? I'm thinking of using the ball end of a ball peen hammer, hitting it with another hammer to peen the rivet.- Top
