    C3: Idle Stop Solenoid

Does anyone know what the correct part number is for the idle stop solenoid on a 72 LT-1? I looked through my Corvette Assembly Manual and I can find several references to it but no part number.

    Thanks for your help. Matt

You won't find it listed in the AIM because it was shipped as an integral part of the carb along with mounting bracket components. But, it should be PN 1114453.

Thanks Jack but I beilieve that part number 1114453 is the vacuum advance solenoid. I'm looking for the idle stop, or anti-dieseling, solenoid part number.

I believe that you can purchase a solenoid from Standard Parts/Blue Streak that is identical, with the exception on the inked part #. The Standard # is ES-1

Standard ES-1 is the equvalent of the 68-69 idle control solenoid. The Standard equivalent of the GM #1114450 is ES-9.

Thanks for all the information guys, especially the picture Joe. My car has the stop idle solenoid on it (inoperative) but it doesn't have a part number on it. Must be a replacement.

Not necessarily. The part number on these units is lightly ink stamped. I don't think that it would survive very long in the underhood environment. So, you may well have the original solenoid, but the part number has long-since disappeared.

These ink-stamped part numbers are often a "clue" that a part was/is not manufactured by Delco but, rather, by an outside supplier to Delco. In this manner, the supplier ink stamps the Delco/GM part number on the units sent to Delco/GM and stamps other numbers, or none at all, on the units packaged in other boxes.

It's much easier to ID the part by ink stamping when the "parts may be going a lot of different ways".

Parts manufactured in-house by Delco (the Delco of old and NOT the Delco of today which is only a marketing organization) usually had the part number hard-stamped. Delco operations did not usually manufacture parts for others, so the hard-stamping worked just fine.

These days, you will find a LOT of ink-stamped Delco parts. Some may have no ink stamping but have other "wierd" numbers hard-stamped on them. Those numbers are their manufacturer's numbers and NOT a GM or Delco number. The GM or Delco number often appears ONLY on the box or other packaging.
