Interesting group of cars. Gene Tucker still has the 55 among many others & runs a Corvette shop here. He's been an NCRS member longer than I have, which is probably approaching 30 yrs now. I don't recall Jimmy Mickle having the red 55. He did own the 67 435 Coupe that I have presently at one time and still has a red 63 Coupe that is Topflight caliber. Robert Reichart a local attorney and State Represenative hasn't fooled with old cars in a long time. All three of these guys are close to the same age and have been friends since adolescence.

      Roy,

I always get a bit quesy when reminded of what these cars went for and the cars let go or passed up. Precipitates the 'thousand mile stare'and random shouts of 'oh my God' with no preceding or following conversation. My concerned family looks into each others eyes and nod silently, assuming I was just reliving a missed arrow at a huge buck at close range.

I have a question for you or anyone else from the left coast re a concentration of vettes I saw on a vist to my in-laws in Eureka, CA. I was going to go from Eureka to the Jed Smith National forest and somewhere along the way came across an isolated gas station that had probably several dozen, mostly early vettes, ie., vettes with trunks. Some were stripped of paint others just seemed sunbleached. They were all parked door to door several deep, along the edge of the property. Each gave the impression of the typical 'wasting away out back' vette you might see on occassion. Timeframe was the early 80s. Any idea of the the owner or story behind that collection??

      Thanks,
      J

Using rough numbers, if you bought them all back then it would have costs you about $15-17k. Figured another $10k (very high estimate) to restore them back then that would be another $50k. What the heck, call it $75k. Today they would easily be worth at least $600-750k (again, grenade level numbers). Not a bad profit if you wanted to sell them all.
