    Overly enthusiatic wipers

I got caught in a five-minute snow squall last week in my 67. When I switched on the wipers, I found they swept a bit more than they should. Although they seem to be correctly parked, they actually sweep past the windshield frame at the outward travel. I've looked at my AIM and my woefully inadequate Chilton's, and this looks like anything but a quick fix. Before I start unscrewing everything, does anyone have any advice on how this should be done?

I worked through this on my 66, and have since helped a few people at Corvette road tours. First, get a wiper arm removal tool, so you don't chip your paint or your hide. Set the blades so the lower one is parked against the rubber gasket, and the gap is the one from the AIM. Adjust for interference by using the slotted screw that is crosswise in the wiper arm - that's what it's for. Bend the arms carefully - if you must, since previous adjusters may have bent the arms to suit their fancy. - Dave

Dave: You mentioned in your posting to buy a windshield wiper removal tool. I have never seen one of these and will be removing my wipers from my 69 some time soon. Is this a common auto parts store tool? Where would you suggest I look for one? Thanks for help. Jeff

        Jeff:

There may be others, but i recently ran acroos one in a Corvette Central catalog, Part No. 651013, price $5.60. No picture, so I don't know how it works.

It has been several years, but I'm sure I got mine through the Corvette catalogs - probably Corvette Central, Mid America Designs, Long Island Corvette, or Chicago Corvette. I have seen similar tools in all of the above catalogs - Dave. P.S. I always carry it in the car to help other Corvette owners.
