Re: Engine paint
I've used paint by POR (Paint Over Rust). Like any paint it requires proper preparation, but the stuff is extremely durable. The finish comes out better than the thin film put on by the factory, but if you never want to paint the engine again it is the stuff to use. Check the POR website or ebay for more info. An engine painting kit with all of the prep materials runs about $45 plus shipping.- Top

Re: Engine paint
michael is correct on meticulous preparation prior to spraying. i clean the block heads etc with ethyl ether(starting fliud) outside with good wind blowing, not in shop in dead of winter with furnace running. the ether is an excellent solvent for the oils that invariably contaminate the external surfaces of the engine as i assemble the old girls. mike- Top

Mike-----
Brake solvent is a great degreaser and is usually non-flammable (although you still don't want to breathe the vapors). It used to be that brake solvent was trichorethylene which is definitely non-flammable, but I don't know what they use now. If you can find it, carbon tetrachloride is another great degreaser which is non-flammable (in fact, it used to be used in some old-time fire extinguishers)In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
