I got a pair of 441 (2C2) and 442 (2B2) horns restored by from Gary Steinkellner (he did a great job! they work beautifully- no affiliation, just a satisfied customer, yadda yadda) and I have a naive question for the group: Looking at the picture, the year in the date codes are clearly more lightly struck than the week and month codes. Once they started dating '62 horns (In January '62 or so?), was there a '2' molded into the horn and then they stamped the week and month separately? Or did I buy two separate forgeries from Ebayers? On the opposite side, they clearly have the raised reinforcing bars around the periphery of the stamping, so they're clearly '62 horns. Thanks for any input!

Re: Date code stamping on '62 horns question:
Gorgeous.
If you look closely, the first "2" is lighter than the "C" as well. With this stamp being early in the month, the "C" could be new, or has suffered less use than the other characters.
Explanation, theoretically, is that through March the year has potentially been struck for 90 days of manufacture, the month character for 30 days and the date once.
The characters have probably been used previously in no particular order.
