This in response to a post by Rob Axel, of 12/23 regarding antenna height. Whenever I'm asked this question, I generally reply "about 13"". Okay, there are varying opinions here, so, I just measured mine with an engineer's steel rule, and verified it with a surveyor's transit, then averaged the two measurements. The results are as follows:
13.38265" from tip, to rear section of deck, antenna installed plumb, plus-or-minus .005 degrees, with car sitting dead level, tire pressure @ 30 psi front and rear. Vehicle heights measured per AIM chassis height specifications. Ambient temp 55*. Subject antenna is an original unit, fully functioning.
Here is an excerpt from the 1965 TIM&JG: "The height in the lowered position is approx. 13 1/2": however, this varies SLIGHTLY (caps added) from car to car". I'm not certain what "slightly" means. It probably varies with the phases of the moon, the judging venue, and the judges indigestion level and/or BAL (blood alcohol level). I suppose that 1" plus-or-minus would be rather generous.
