Corvette chief engineer Dave Hill has announced his retirement effective 1-01-06 after over 41 years of service. He will be succeeded by Tom Wallace, who has almost 40 years in at GM already. Mr. Wallace really has three tough acts to follow in Arkus-Duntov, McClellan, and Hill.

Re: Dave Hill Announces Retirement
This was announced a bit over a month ago.
I think Hill was a superb Chief Engineer and Vehicle Line Manager - a fitting successor to Duntov - just look at the current products and racing success!
The XLR is a marketing disappointment. Though it's the equal of anything in its class, it's a matter of the three pointed star carrying a lot more cache in that market than the Cadillac Crest.
Wallace is an unknown quality, and I doubt he will have much budget for product improvements in the next few years given GM's financial/product problems, but then the Corvette won't need much to stay ahead of the competition.
His biggest challenge will be what to do with the XLR.

Re: Dave Hill Announces Retirement
I met the fellow in person this year at Corvettes of Carlilse and it was an honor for me to meet him.
Since meeting him I have been reading quite abit of his acomplishments and would have to say he has pushed the newest corvettes to a level that I dont see how anyone behind him can beat.
As a matter of fact he pushed the bar so high with this new Z06 I am now in the market to replace my wifes 2002 C5 (that I thought I would own forever).
I will miss him- Top
