    '66 Underdash capacitor connection?

Under the dash, screwed on to the left side of the support is what looks like an orange capacitor about the size of a AA battery. There are black wires out of each end, with flat connectors. They aren't attached anywhere...where are they supposed to go? The assembly manual isn't clear enough for me to figure it out.(All the gages and instruments work)

Your (radio noise-supression) capacitors connections are shown on UPC69, sheets A5 & A6 toward the back of the AIM -- pages F437 & F438 in mine. The cap on the extreme left of the cluster bottom piggybacks into the ammeter connector receptacle, black wire. Not sure what you are describing, but the ammeter cap should have a single black wire. These caps don't affect your instrumentation functionality.

      Rob,

I suspect you are looking at the cap for the brake light switch. See U69 A5

        Jeff,

There are 2 black wires, one on each end. Does one piggy back into a wire on the brake light switch and the other into the ammeter? I've looked at the U69 page in my assembly manual, it seems to only show one wire going from the supressor to the white wire on the brake light switch. Does the black wire on the other end piggy back into the ammeter connection?

          Jeff,

The assembly manual shows a different capacitor connects to the ammeter, not the same one that connects to the brake switch wire...

The dual wire capacitor that is mounted on the bracket for the pedals is connected across the brake lite switch, one wire on each pole... in a 67 anyway.... assume 66 is the same.

The only capacitor with two leads and "flags" on the ends is the one for the brake light switch; it's attached to the left side of the pedal support assembly.

Thanks...I'll try to figure out exactly how they connect.

John...that's got to be it. Exactly how are these flag connectors attached?

                    John,

These cap leads piggyback inside the brake light switch connector -- one on the 20GA white side & the other on the 20GA orange. Shouldn't matter which side of the cap you select for W or OR; the wires may be 'trained' in the original orientation when you pass them toward the brake switch.
