    Is the tank sticker there?

This past summer I was able to finally fulfill a life's dream...a 1969 L36 coupe is now in my garage. During my search, I've looked to the NCRS for advice and education and proudly joined at Corvettes @ Carlisle.

If I may tap into everyone's experience, is there a way to check to see if the tank sticker is still on the tank without having to drop the tank?

Again, many thanks for all of your help in my search and I wish all a prosperous and healthy 2006!

Sometimes you can move the rubber around the gas filler neck ..shine a light to the upper left hand portion of the top of the tank..to see if it is still there.

Do not try to remove it this way or you will damage it. Best to drop the tank.

you might can see it if you take tha gas lid rubber out. other than that it will be hard to even do it that way.

Drop the tank. Get a digital camera and shoot. Reinstall with new straps and necessary parts. Also If you have thetime pull your sending unit for you gas gauge and run an ohms test on it and renew the O-ring. I always figure if I'm going to remove something I may as well do a mnts.check and repari on the item.

You should be able to see the sheet from the tanks fill boot. If nothing is seen on either side reconsider dropping the tank it's probaly not there.

Once you drop the tank, this is what you will see hopefully. I took a couple dozen photos of this tank as it sat on the floor with the license plate on the car in full view and my business card laying on the sticker. PT

check to see if anyone has a flexible "bore scope" and use it to go in around the gas filler.

Mike I found a copy of the Corvette Order in the dash behind the radio on my 68 and one behind the tach on my 70. These are original owner cars and no one else had the chance to remove them. You might get lucky.

I was able to pull the rubber guard down enough to see that the top of the tank is very dirty, as if it hasn't been dropped. However, I wasn't able to see a sticker. I'll give the bore scope a try and also a look behind the radio. Thanks very much for the responses!

                  Patrick,
Will the sticker be as close to the fill cap as it is seen in your photo?

If it is very dirty, you may find it is under a layer of dirt, and won't be seen while in the car until you get it out. I had one I thought wasn't there looking in around the cap. Dropped the tank, there it was.

Another had a section of the sheet missing, so it was not visible from the cap either.

What the heck, it is only a set of exhaust, the spare tire carrier, and a few other things. Just don't do it before trying to go Bow Tie.

Not sure if this applies to a 69 but I found the tank sticker for my 72 on the right side of the tank instead of the usual left side. Tom

I too found my tank sticker on the right side on my very late built '71. Here is a picture of it after removing the filler door and peeled back the boot.

Not much left, but it proves at least it is an original Lt-1.

I also found my 72 on the right side of tank and it had folded over and was in good shape to read. Then when I had the dash apart to do some work, I found a perfect copy rolled up and stuck between the tach and speedo as some others mentioned.

You can check easy enough behind the tach and speedo by loosening the screws holding in the wiper switch and sticking you hand in there and reaching behind. Might be worth a shot!
