Re: C2 Front Spring Install Help Please

Thanks for all the help and tips guys.

I'm almost there but I've got a problem. I got the new spring in, and bolted together the lower ball joint/A-arm, and then I noticed that the spring is not properly positioned in the top pocket. It seems to be about maybe 3/4" out of position. I'm thinking of compressing the spring from the the lower A-arm to take pressure off the top pocket (without popping off the lower ball joint again). Then sticking a bar through the spring and trying to lever the top of the spring into proper position in the top pocket. Does that sound like it might work?

......or do you think I'll have to pop the lower ball joint again, push down the lower A-arm and wrestle the spring into proper positon as I use a jack to raise the A-arm.

Thanks. Bob in beautiful Lovettsville, VA

The best way I have found is using a threaded rod like in that picture and unbolting the lower a-arm pivot bar from the frame. Popping the ball joint without the special $300 Snap On tool is a good way to destroy it. (Using a fork?)

Then with a set of long bolts to guide the pivot back into place, the threaded rod will pull the a-arm right back up with no fuss. When it is close and the spring is still loose, you spin the spring to sit in the pocket right.

I had a friend who used a jack all the time, and changed many of them, and while he was telling me it was the superior way to to it, he set about modifying his garage wall.
