Phil: I appreciate your note and understand where you're coming from. Of course, I had considered having the job done by a pro. All us shade tree'ers hear about not messin with car springs. I'm sure you're right that the job would be done faster and better by a professional, but then I woulda robbed myself of the chance to have my jaw smashed by an out of control C2 Corvette spring! All seriousness aside, the best reason I can give for working on my cars is that I love the challenge of working with my hands and doing something mechanical that I've not done before. I work behind a desk all week and I enjoy planning the mechanical work I'll be doing the upcoming weekend. A couple of months ago I installed a new soft top on the car. I think I did a halfway decent job, too. Many told me don't try it. But I did my homework and the good Al Knoch people up at Carlisle who were installing tops at Knoch's tent were extrememly helpful at answering my dumb questions and even let me take pictures as they installed. Even my wife had her doubts on that one. I could go on but many of us have been there done that.

The guys I really admire are those who are fearless and tear into anything. I've got a friend with a vintage Ferrari, a life-long desk guy like me but on weekends you may find that car torn to pieces. We're not talking about a big bucks fellow who's got a fancy garage here with huge roll around tool carts either.

To me, Winters are for fixin, Sunny days are for drivin'.

Have fun. Regards, Ox in beautiful Lovettsville, VA

Now, That's the Spirit!! Have at It

I made my own spring compressor with 2 sections of old leaf spring and 1/2" threaded rod. I only suffered a fractured skull can't you tell.

      Good luck, and good night.

I hear ya, maybe you can get a friend with enough experience to help you. This job is a litle on the dangerous side to you and the car. You know (The older we get the better we were).Good luck and be safe! Phil 8063 I still say go and watch
