    68 Brake Pedal Return Spring

I have a 68 with power brakes and I am currently rebuilding the pedal assembly. I have a "brake pedal return spring" that is listed for use with 1967-82.

SEE LINK TO PARAGON PART BELOW

As a side note, there was no return spring and no evidence that there had ever been one when I dissasembled it. When I installed the sping it certainly does not look right. It looks like it's too short and is cocked sideways or the little welded on braket that captures the straight end is not deep enough. My 68 AIM does not even show this part.

Do I have the right part or do I even need it?

I don't think that the spring was used for power brake applications----just manual brakes

      Larry,
I have a 68 with power brakes and I do not have this spring on my pedal.
My car was built May 10, 1968 and I purchased it in 1972 from a friend who was a fanatic and I highly doubt that he removed the spring and I certainly didn't remove it, therefore I think Joe is right (he usually is) that the power brake cars did not have this spring.

        Kurt and Larry-----

I did a little further research. It now seems to me that the spring may have been added to later C3s with power brakes (as well as being used on all manual brake applications, of course). However, I don't know when the spring was added. The power brake pedal changed for the 1974 model year, so that may have been when the spring was added for power brake applications. That's just a guess, though.

Joe, Thanks for the info. I did a little more investigation also. I have a 79 AIM and it shows the assembly of the return spring. It also shows a bushing #3908768 that apparently fits over the pedal shaft and inside the spring coil. This would correct the "cocking" I have in mine (I think). Here is a picture of mine installed without the bushing.
