    C-1 Starting Problem

When I start my 59 245 HP from a cold start, choke set, it cranks up and shuts off. It will crank on the second try but is slow to get to fast idle. Can you tell me why it is doing this? Thanks advance and Happy New Year. Jimmy

Choke could be too tight or the choke pull-off piston is sticking. With the engine cold adjust the choke so the flap will close and have a bit of spring tension. Then start the engine. The vacuum should pull the flap open about 3/16 - 1/4 inch or so. If it doesn't pull the flap open and you're sure all the linkage is clean and free remove the choke thermostat cover and clean the piston. Then adjust the fast idle accordingly. Then again the choke could be set too loose adjust it tighter. Rob

      Hi Jim

There was a posting about this before,, a couple weeks ago. If I remember correctly, it turned out to be the air cleaner was not on right and it interfeared with the linkage. Check that out. Hopefully this was some help.
