late 64 questions - M21 and seat belts

    Hi,

Still working on trying to do a correct restoration of a late 64 Corvette roadster (J29 or June 29 build date) that was not at all correct to start with:

    1) seat belt holders on console - most literature seems to indicate these were not used until 65. Would a late 64 console have the seat belt holders and holes for these? Car had a powerglide when I started and I've changed back to a 4 speed and thus need a 4 speed console.

    2) Muncie M20 with a 3:36 posi rear end - most literature seems to indicate the choice of wide ratio (M20) versus close ratio (M21) was determined by rear end ratio and horsepower. I'm building an L76 365 hp and have a 3:36 posi (CB) rear end and have an M20. Some literature seems to indicate that only a close ratio M21 would be fit with an L76 regardless of ratio.

    Thanks in advance,
    Lawrence

    Lawrence-----

For 1964 there was, officially, no M-21. All 4 speed trnamsissions were M-20, but there were the 2 different first gear ratios available. The ratio you got was determined by the engine option. The L-76 equipped with 4 speed received only the 2.20:1 ratio (a ratio later known as M-21).

There should be NO holes in the console for any 1964 Corvette, the holes for the seat belts started in 1965
