Re: How big is the Corvette corral at Sebring?
I used to go to Sebring all the time, but on the other side of the fence from where you will be.
I don't ever remember a Corvette Corral. I have seen several Corvettes, but I think a lot of people leave them home for safe keeping.
Don't take a motorcycle, either. You park it at the gate, or leave. At least it always was that way but the recent multi-million dollar hotel set may have changed that. Haven't been there since that happened and the Hairpin disappeared.- Top

Re: How big is the Corvette corral at Sebring?
There was a Corvette Corall at Sebring until the early Eighties at turn seventeen. It was quite large-200-300 corvettes. It was administered by Jim Anderson of Clearwater and then later paid for and administered by Vintage Vettes of South Florida. We lost the corrall when the Porsche dealers stepped up with big money, catered lunches and Perrier water to wash the Porsches! Sebring in the seventies was great fun-we even managed to get a car on the track during night practice in 77.One member was arrested for driving his corvair station wagon around the track on Sunday morning after the race. He still has the citation which reads "Speed too fast for conditions-Conditions, Sebring Raceway". Russ Edwards' finest moment!

Re: How big is the Corvette corral at Sebring?
I went to Sebring several years in the '80s and '90s, some to watch, some to work. The motorcycles were impounded at the gate. You pulled in to park or you turned around.
I showed up to work in '89 I think, on the bike as I did at most tracks. I entered through the workers gate but it wasn't long until they were on me. However, as a worker, I did get to keep it in the SCCA parking behind Will Call, however, my intentions were to take it to the corner so I didn't have to carry my stuff.
A bunch of us were staying at the Club Timing and Scoring trailer by the Hairpin and I didn't want to walk and carry stuff all the way over there, either.
So I stripped off my whites, jumped on the bike after dark, and wound my way through the pits and paddock as soon as I saw the security go past. I ended up on the track and ran up to the old Carousel, then found a hole to get back into the worker area. I had cops everywhere trying to find me and people were cheering and blocking the cops as I went.
I managed to get to T&S and hide the bike on the infield side of the trailer among some worker cars (they were allowed to drive out at night to T&S) and watched the cops running all around looking for that bike.
I was the first bike in or on Sebring during the 12 Hours in a long time as they banned them years ago after an incident that is Urban Legend proportions today. The real story is that it involved two drunks on dirt bikes they had in their pickup who ran over a girl in a tent. Ever since all bikes have been banned because it is much safer to have drunks driving around all night in 4WD pickups than motorcycles.
However, it has been all new management/ownership for 10 years or so and who knows what it is like now.- Top
