    1965 Fiberglass Color

I have a 1965 roadster, AO Smith tag 5361. The birthday calculator f0r the 116903 VIN says it's a May 6 1965 build date. My question is what color should the fiberglass be? I have read that both gray and white was used in 1965.
    Thank you as always,

    George

    George:

That is true. My car, built in May 1965 consists of about a 50/50 mix of "white" to "grey" panels. The floorpan, rear deck, decklid, quarters, and taillight panels are "white". The firewall/cowl, doors, hood, exhaust panel, surround, gill panels, front valence, inner fenders, rear splash baffles, are "grey".

      George,

I have an AO Smith bodied 65 convertible with a late April build date and my observations would match those of Joe. FYI.

My AO Smith has an estimated build date of 5/13 with all light gray panels.

Thanks to all who responded. It appears mine is very similar to what Joe has detailed. Mine does also have white rear splash panels.
I don't have any history on the car and as I have been cleaning undercoat and grime from the underbody I started wondering why there was so much white glass. I had been under the impression that all 65's were grey fiberglass. Thanks again for the great information.
