    Lost of Judging Points

    Hi Group;
    Does anyone know how many judging points I'll loose by having side exhausts on my AO Smith '66 BB? Apparently, AO Smith Corvettes never had side pipes (data from my NCRS group).
    Thanks,
    Jim

    You really don't want to know.

    Let me put it this way. If you have any hope of a Top Flight, your car better be a 97 point car or better w/o this deduction.

      Well, you can add it up for yourself, Rocker cover mouldings and brackets, rear valence, all the pipes and heat shields, if someone did a really good job, the seals are missing on the underbody splash pans, the frame will show evidence of having a rear hanger, for a small deduct, missing radio ground straps, There are probably more and some will depend on how hard the judges look, as about three of the four teams are involved in adjusting scoring for all the modifications, but about 2 points on the net is close, maybe a little less.

        Bill,

        I believe that the ruling is a full deduction for the exhaust system will be assigned plus any body modifications that were made to accomodate the side pipes.

          True, and the mech and chassis boys will also be looking for changes/mods, and they will get the splash pans and the ground straps that should be on the center exhaust and are not. I'll throw the missing support at the trans in with the exhaust system. I think the total is in the 80+ point (gross) range and it somewhat depends on how completly the changeover was accomplished. At least when I've been involved, if the added side exhaust was found, the chassis guys usually find it and let the team leader sign off and he notifies all the other teams.

            Mr. Clupper,

            you are correct! had this happen at our last Mason-Dixon meet - full deduct for exhaust and other items, as you mentioned, after MECH guys and others confirmed - judging chairman had to ensure full deducts were assessed

                Hi Don,
                I believe this applies to 1967's only. OK for 1965 and 1966.

                    Jim, Boy will you ever be penalized for those sidepipes!! First, your car will be empounded, your NCRS membership canceled and you, and YOU, will be taken out back and asphixiated to death with the exhaust from your own sidepipes!Yes, there is a heavy "hit" for those melodic additions to your Vette. Enjoy them,but make the rest of the car PERFECT. Good luck!

                        Hi Group;
                        Thanks for all the input and advise. I planned to take flack, but so what's new. My group is making my car as perfect as possible. The 66 NCRS judging manual is with me all the time. The unfortunate part is I'm starting to remember and dream Corvette parts. I need a break. Thanks again.
                        Ciao,
                        Jim Hilton
