69 BB Oil Pump Bolt Part Number

Can someone out there tell me what the GM part number is for the bolt that bolts the oil pump to the rear main cap? Also who makes a tool for installing the oil pump pick-up tube?

    Thanks,

    Ted

Re: 69 BB Oil Pump Bolt Part Number

    Ted,

The part number for the oil pump bolt is 3866604 and I believe it's still available from GM. It's actually refered to as a stud because it also has the threaded portion on the hex end for the windage tray.

Kent Moore has/had a nice tool for installing the pick up screen without damaging the pipe. Most Chevrolet dealers may still have one as it was part of their tool room equipment. Also, I believe there are other companies that make a universal tool for this purpose that may be rentable at your local auto parts.

Goodson (http://www.goodson.com) makes a tool for installing the pickup tube to the pump body.

        pickup installer

get a piece of 1/8" wall thickness 3/4" inside diameter steel tubing about 8" long, cut it down the middle lengthwise for about 3-1/2" and remove one side. use a hose clamp to clamp the this open part of the tubing to the pickup tube and drive the pickup into the pump. use 5/8" inside diameter for the SBC pump

Michael, Do you know the part number for the bolt if you're not running the windage tray?

All, thanks for the advice on the pickup installation tool. I visited several of the sites and also noticed one on Flatlanderracing.com from B&B. I think I'll try Clem's approach if I can find the steel tubing.

                ted------

The bolt without the extension is GM #3860382. However, this bolt was never used on any Corvette. All Corvette big blocks were originally fitted with a windage tray and the Corvette oil pan is designed for use with a windage tray. The Corvette oil pan was not used for any other chassis application.
