My questions relate to the actual procedures of judging to accomplish Bowtie.If I understand correctly you must present your car at a regional and at that time the National Team Leader recommends it to be judged for Bowtie at the national? Could someone walk me through actual judging scenario? Is the car put on lift at Nationals only? My Team Leader is prepared to look at car at Florida but I just wanted someone to let me know what I was getting into. Thanks in advance!

The car must be reviewed at a regional as you state. You can choose to enter it for flight judging for that regional if you like. The team leader will determine if you can bring it to the National Convention for Bowtie judging. Depending on your car the team leader could inform you that it is a canditate for one or more stars (judging in exterior, interior, chassis, and mechanical each count for a star). If your car is suitable for judging in all four areas your are "on the road to Bowtie" as you say.
If you do not have it already, you should get the NCRS Judging Reference manual. If has many facts you need to know in addition to a form you must fill out to send in with your entry papers for the national. You should really read the manual to understand the Bowtie judging, but just know it is not at all like Flight judging. The judging sheets are not available but each catergory has 100 or so item that will be judged on pass/fail basis. If you pass about 80% of the items you have cleared one hurdle. The second hurdle is a subjective vote among the judges and team leader. The car must recieve two "yes" votes in each catergory.
Bowtie judging is only at the convention, once a year, and the classes are small, so get your entry in ASAP.

When you present it at a Regional, the preference is that you have it Flight Judged. Why? The same 4 teams of judges have to look at the car anyway to review it. If they are Flight judging it, they look at both Originality and Condition, but if "Bowtie previewing" then they just score the Originality. I believe the cost is the same, so you might as well do the Flight.
A note: don't take the word of the judges as "gospel" when they take points off at a Chapter or Regional, and some would say even National. I know my 72 has some original features that a judge or two at the Regional didn't like when I presented the car, yet at National they had no issues. I know that as a judge I've also made errors for one reason or another. So, if you're thinking Bowtie, don't change anything based on comments at the Regional level.
I had my car judged at Regional and National for Flight judging, then the next year did Bowtie.

The new Star/Bowtie judging requires that the car be judged at a Regional. As Patrick states, the owner decides upon arrival which route to go. The team leader signs off, but he is going to get team input, so you might as well get the judges' opinnions. Even though the same judges may be at the Regional and National, they may see things differently or learn more in the time between.- Top

When it is judged at the National Meet and undergoing its actual Bowtie judging, then it is placed on a lift, or if we have to on jack stands.
The lift is not used when being judged at a Regional as a Bowtie candidate.
Just wanted to be sure Harold was clear on that.
