    I saw a muncie trans up for sale with the numbers B241092. Does this signify B for February and then the last 6 digits of the vin?

      B is for Baltimore, building Full Size Chevrolet's during most of the Muncie years.

          Chevelle (incl El Camino)

          Baltimore, as Bill says but probably post-1965 as the last Chevelle from that plant was VIN B188266 in that model year; (maybe a 3885010 maincase '66 or '67) ?
