2) Engine at idle;

3) Transmission in "PARK".

NORMAL OPERATING TEMP: about one hour of driving

FLUID LEVEL: if at the ADD area on the dip stick when fluid is HOT then add 1 PINT not 1 LITRE{QUART}.To check to see if fluid is at proper operating temperature take DIP STICK out and if you touch the tip with your fingers and it's too hot to hold onto it's OK, if you can keep your fingers on it,then it's not at proper temperature.

RUNNING IN GEAR: put vehicle in nuetral not park, and run it through all the gears first then in nuetral and on flat level ground.You should see a little difference in fluid level between park and nuetral that is why it should be in nuetral.

...Where would you start on a "cold check" of oil level. You know, before you went out for that extended drive to heat up the oil so you could burn your fingers on the Dipstick, Thanks, Dipstick
