      A better fit?

How about one of those contests on the Speed Channel where the owner makes the front of the car jump up and down? Wouldn't that be a more appropriate group to judge that thing? You know what I'm sayin? Word.

Allthough not every one is going to like the colors,

I think its great the Z is being used as a pace car. The best part is this car in stock form is probably faster then the race cars on the track and has all the comorts of a modern car.

Since the first Z06's are not for sale and going to be crushed, why not have a special race with them, perhaps a race day at INDY? Then have a parts auction? Perhaps it pay for some health care expenses.

Hope the Corvette Museum gets one to raffle off to some lucky ticket winner. I read in Corvette Fever that the one they covered in magazine being built would be crushed. That would sure be a waste.

can't say for sure BUT knowing GM

they would not want to cheat their dealers out of a sale. i watched them destroy brand new cars from a flood and they made sure that every body panel was ruined so they could not be sold.

Re: can't say for sure BUT knowing GM

When Chrysler bought AMC in 1987, the brand-new Bramalea, Ontario assembly plant came with the deal, which was in the middle of launching the new French-engineered full-size Renault sedan which later became the Eagle Premier. The launch (and the car) were a flaming disaster; my Manufacturing Engineering Team that took over the plant determined that the 400 or so completed cars and everything in process in the plant was beyond saving, so we emptied the system back to the end of the Body Shop, hired a contractor, set up a crusher on-site, right in the middle of the repair yard, and crushed about 1100 cars. We spent twelve weeks correcting the product and process problems and re-launched the product as the Eagle Premier about four months later.

That car (and its badged Dodge Monaco partner) died on the vine due to lack of orders (not even enough to run on one shift), and we converted the plant to build the new cab-forward "LH" cars in 1991 (Dodge Intrepid, Eagle, Chrysler Concorde and LHS); that plant now builds their replacements - the new Chrysler 300, 300C Hemi, 300 SRT-8, Dodge Magnum, and Dodge Challenger, and has been running flat-out 24 hours a day for the last 18 months, with no end in sight.

                          Jim -

It was unveiled yesterday at the Detroit Auto Show; spy shots have been in AutoWeek and elsewhere for about a month.
