    63 radiator support

New to NCRS and have been visiting the discussion board for a few weeks. Great information and I am looking forward to meeting many of you and hope you can help bring me up to speed. I've owned a SWC for 30 years now which has sat in my garage for 29 of those years. Started restoration in '77 and got side-tracked, you know how that can be. Car is now in a shop that will allow me to work with the owner to do the work. Having a blast! My question concerns replacing the radiator support. Looking at the archives, there seems to be some problems with the fit of the repros, at least going back to posts in mid 2005. Have these problems been cleared up? My original is somewhat bent and I was ready to order a new one, but the messages on the site have me confused. Thanks for any guidance. Sorry for the length of my question, will tighten up next time.

    Re: 63 radiator support

In a recent post someone mentioned they had trouble getting the part. I know several of the parts vendors sell the bottom rail. This is the part that usually needs replacement. I replaced the one in my 63 and found the replacement part fit well.

It is my understanding that the service replacments and repros differ from the original 63-only support in the area where the horns mount. Below is a picture of my original and you can see the raised areas in the front.

My is a fuelie therefore the hole but I believe the non-FI cars had the same raised areas. If wrong someone will chime in.

The problem with mine is that it is somewhat out of shape, not that it is rusty or deteriorated. That's why I would like a clean one. It may be able to be reshaped and smoothed out. Thanks

          Re: 63 radiator support

I was reading on this board of problems with supports not fitting and vendors reluctant to recommend the part because holes did not line up and possible other problems. Anyone buy one recently with good results?
