    '66 Grill paint color

For some unfortunate reason, while the grill was removed to repaint the car, the previous owner of my '66 painted the portion of the front grill that should be silver-gray, black. I'd like to repaint it correctly. Since there's quite a bit of work involved in removing it, I'd like to match the original color as close as possible. Has anyone found a particular brand/color paint that matches the original? I thought of using Krylon dull aluminum, but I think it's more grey than that.

You might see how cast blast looks to you. I think it looks pretty good.

      Rob -

I've got a NOS '66 grill and would have to agree that Cast Blast should come pretty close to the original color.

        Wayne,

I've used so many different types of cast iron color spray paint. Do you mean the actual brand Cast Blast, like Long Island carries?

          Mike,

I don't have an original grille to look at now, but if I remember correctly, it appeared that the grille must have been completely painted and then wiped off of the polished areas. Is that what it looks like to you?

            Rob -

I've never thought about it, but that may very well be how it was done. Or at the least, a good way for a C2 owner to restore a grill.

I've heard '63 owners describe using a similar technique on the hood inserts.
